Would like to leave SoftLayer, any offers comparable or cheaper than this?
Well, to make a long story short, we have had some less than stellar network performance with SoftLayer since the merge with thePlanet. We had been clients with thePlanet (before that, ev1servers; and before that raq... or how they were called) for a long time, and we left them for SoftLayer after awful experiences a while ago. So, let's say I do not like the merge. Plus, I think it is healthy to at least take look around once in a while.
We do manage our own servers, being Linux administrators, but we appreciate managed services, and more than that, we appreciate servers that are setup from day one with some basic security in place (we currently use AtomiCorp's Linux kernel on our machines: it is great, but a bit expensive for our needs).
Fyi, here's the link for the Advertising section.
Are you looking for a new host in the US also or doesn't location matter much?
» www.InstantDedicated.com - Online in no time » Dedicated Servers in [EU] Netherlands with DAILY support, also on weekends » DDOS Protected network - 100% Money Back if it doesn't work for you » Streaming / IPTV allowed | Up to 10 Gbit ports | 100% Network Uptime
You should have a few options that are comparable to SoftLayer. Your budget is good for a similar or high performance machine at a stable provider.
Do you have any specific requirements that need to be filled?

In general, we are currently not taking advantage of this whole server, it is too much for our needs. But we have a couple of websites that are growing fast, so we might need more resources soon. Something easily upgradeable would be nice.
Really, I am looking for a good, classic compromise between price and quality - the most difficult kind of deal to find I would prefer to stay with some some average sized provider and not with small, semi-unknown ones. Not because I think they are necessarily bad, but because I need to be sure there is a 24/7 team available.
We do not need management since we are admins ourselves; but if a server comes with at least a basic secure setup from day one, it can help us spend less time setting it up.
Wired Tree seems good. Anyhow, which are, currently, hosts which have a good reputation on these forums? WHT is how I discovered SoftLayer, and until the recent merge, it was a good choice.
