    Prefiber.nl - - (resolved)

    Hello everyone,
Here I am for another review. After almost 2 month of service I decided to close my account with prefiber.nl due to low support and non-existant network connectivity.

I'll explain what happened so that other people can avoid being in my same situation. (it's not a big money loss for me anyway)

I had with them a 256MB/512MB burst OpenVZ linux vps that I planned to use to balance-host part of my website downloads in periods of high load of my dedicated server. (and to host a little vpn for personal usage)
The service, while decent in the hardware department (didn't had much slowdown to date) was downright ridicolous in the network connectivity department.
For 3 weeks to this day the outbound connectivity goes between 14 KB/s to USA and 80 KB/s in Germany (with strangely 90/100KB/s to United Kingdom)
I reached them at the 21 april with this text :

    "Hello Support,

I am noticing great slowdown in the upload connectivity for my VPS. I tested from different location (Italy, USA, UK, France, Germany) and the best I can get is 60/80KB/s (much like my home adsl ironically).

Is there some problem on the server?
This is not an acceptable speed for doing anything…

    Thank you,
    "

at which after 24 hour of wait and another email I got this answer

    "Dear,

I've tested your vps with three test files. One in the UK, one in the Netherlands and one in Germany. All of them didn't resulted as your problem described they should.

Are you sure this is a constant problem? Maybe you were just using the vps at the wrong time (e.g. at a server stress peak).

Below are the logs of the tests I runned so you can see what I did.

    Kind regards,

Yes, I told them I had uplink problems and they tested the downlink connectivity.

After which the email succession continued till the 27 of april (with me giving lots of example of the problem)
    I got a

"This required a bit more testing which I haven't had the time for yet. I'll email you back about this issue by friday."

And well, yes still got no email to this date. (Monday 02/05/2011)

Do I really have to add anything else? Almost 2 weeks from the report and no solution for the problem.

    This is not acceptable unfortunately.

Stay away from their company and save your money.

    Regards,
    feal87

    Hi feal87,

Can you please check /proc/user_beancounters and see if there is anything in the failcnt column for example.
Most of the time, this is the actual issue and not the network connectivity.

I see. If you can check right now and confirm the speed is the same, without any failcnt going up, then it may actually be an issue on their end indeed.
I guess download on that VPS are ok ? (if that's the case, then the network or at least the server's network port is full)

Yep, download around 9/10 MB/s from USA, upload 15 KB/s to USA, tested again to be sure.

I've just send the TS a email about this problem, we might found and fixed it. There was a problem in openVZ with venet0:0. It should be now much better cause im gettings speeds around the 12MB/s upload/download.

Issue resolved, thanks for the support. A little late, but well...better than nothing.

They offered a free month and I'll be happy to continue with them and see what happens, hoping for no other issues.

Can a moderator mark this as [Resolved]?

If everything went well so far, except the current issue, then I would stick with them for now.
