I've been running my own hosting business (as a reseller) for a year now and I don't have a specific budget for monthly advertising.
What I've done so far was word-of-mouth marketing and If someone (existing users or not) refers my hosting/web design services to others, I would give that person for 15% commission of the deals.
Is 15% commission fair enough? a bit low or high? what do you think guys?
The % you allot to advertising depends largely on how you want to grow, slow and steady or rapid spurts. From my experience, rapid spurts is the best way to grow! I'm not at liberty to give an exact dollar amount, but I can say that we invest about 40% of our annual profit back into marketing and advertising!
