The Xeon E5620 are nice and fast CPU's and cost about the same as the E5520's.
We have many of them running for VPS purpose, so I suggest using them.
If the X5650 is supported, you can also use that one, even more powerful and has 6 cores» www.InstantDedicated.com - Online in no time

72 GB of RAM on one VPS node? How many VPSes do you plan to put there??? Doesn't sound like a very good idea to me.

I would recommend the 6 core xeon E5645. It's about $600 each, and you can get two of them into that server, giving you some serious processing power at a reasonable price. Should help make sure you don't run out of processing power in that 72gb ram server.

Go with 2xE5520 w/ 24GB-32GB of ram, and not 72GB...On a node with these many resources you will also need a raid controller.
