Big Brain Host Review
This is just my 2 cents...
I started my VPS service with Big Brain Host on December 2nd 2010. I needed to host a small personal web page and sites I had development, I needed my own place in the cloud to store data and have access to it, and I needed a linux sandbox. After speaking with a buddy in the IT world it seemed the best thing for me would be a VPS.
I've been using the service for just under 5 months and I'm really happy with it. I'm hosting my own personal site, a site I'm developing for a client and a site for a friend of mine. I'm also hosting a small knowledgebase I created for users at my company to aid in our migration to Google Apps. The ability to host and stream high quality HTML5 videos of screencasts I make for the knoweledge base has been invaluable since the Google Apps video service transcodes the video to such a low quality.
Having a linux sandbox to test stuff before I put it in to production has also been very helpful. In the last month I have deployed an Ad Server (OpenX) and BIND 9 (I brought DNS in-house) and I was able to test both of those in a CentOS environment similar to the one at the company I work for.
Big Brain has been awesome so far. There was a bit of downtime when they switched datacenters, but they have been up nonstop since then. I have the OpenVZ VPS2 plan and it seems to be perfect for me. The terminal and the virtual host itself are always very responsive and I never seem to want for bandwidth.
I haven't had to submit any support tickets so far, but I did have to deal with an abuse complaint. Apparently some nefarious person out there was bouncing SPAM off of an MTA setup I had not completed / hardened yet. I was super embarssed, but the guys at Big Brain were very cool about it and communicated openly with me. The issue was resolved the same day.
This is my first VPS service, so I can't really compare it to anything else. What I can say though is that so far Big Brain Host has been a perfect fit for me.
