    Any free control panels?

    Hi

I want to install a control panel on a dedicated server, but want something free, because this is for personal stuff and not business. Also, SMTP is needed. Server is linux by the way.

    Thanks in advance!

ISPConfig still needs work, and it's a nightmare to install. It's not ready for prime time yet.

Take a look at Kloxo for a terrific free control panel.

Webmin is a terrific Linux administration tool, but it's not a hosting control panel by any stretch of the imagination. Even with the Virtualmin plug-in, it's not an acceptable interface for administrating a hosting business.

I believe I've tested them all, including the commercial products. If someone knows of a free product that even approaches the capabilities and stability of Kloxo I would like to hear about it.

I need something in the area of cpanel not for vps reselling or anything of that nature.

Does webmin, ISPconfig or kloxo have SMTP?

For what you described in your OP, Kloxo is your best option, it has every thing that you may need including SMTP.

Remember Kloxo currently supports only 32bit OS, few people have made it run on 64bit too, but that is not recommended if you are not a seasoned linux admin.

Seasoned admin or not, if you install Kloxo on a 64-bit machine some Kloxo features can't work.

Kloxo was the one I liked more, but I guess I will have to go with webmin or ISPconfig because my system is 64-bit.

If you have any other suggestions I would still like to know.

In that case better go with ISPconfig, its more of a hosting CP, whereas Webmin is like system CP.

Also, if you have not seen it before, have a look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/wiki/L...control_panels

Thanks, I had not seen this list yet!

As to ISPConfig, it does seem quite difficult to install, plus I am just starting out so I don't have that much experience.

I believe kloxo would be your best bet.

Kloxo is the easiest to install.

Webmin? I'm stressed out right now why it wont point to the correct site folder and just point to 1 website... "Name-Based virtual host."

Anybody that can help me with Webmin, would be greatly appreciated

I love webmin as a Linux administration & configuration environment, but I wouldn't recommend it as a hosting control panel solution for a commercial hosting company. Look to Kloxo for that kind of free product.
