Generally speaking we find that it has no effect what so ever. The only thing that does have effects we find ***Atleast with Google*** is the IP Blacklisted? Which country is the IP in?
We have found that Google has made their SEO much more simpler in recent months. Eg. Alot of it now depends on what the owner (by verifying the owner of that site) wants and their target customers etc.
It can help to some extent but not enough to increase your ranking. Just think that when your site is hosted in a dedicated IP it would send a signal to Google that you want to be different than anybody else.
I agree with anyone who's saying that the dedicated IP is of a very little importance when it comes to Search engine optimization. SEO is based on the quality of the content, not on the IP of the host server.

is that true that a site with unique dedicated IP has better seo than site hosted on shared plan, shared IP with some "1000++" other sites?
well at least on some webhosts who are trying to sell their dedicated IP claim that it is...
so is it just marketing gimmick or reality?
A dedicated IP is better for your website's performance but it takes too much cost in compare to shared hosting. On the SEO ground shared and dedicated hosting are same unless all the shared websites are linked with each other.
