    CDONTS Windows Server 2008 / 64 bit

    I have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 and the required services like MS SMTP, MS FTP etc..

    But when i run a simple ASP mail script that uses CDONTS, getting the following error message.

    HTTP/1.1 New Application Failed

    Here is the content in the mail script.

    Set objNewMail = server.CreateObject("CDONTS.NewMail")

    With objNewMail
    .From = "[email protected]"
    .To = "[email protected]"
    .Subject = "CDONTS - TEST MAIL"
    .Body = "CDONTS Test"
    .Importance = 2
    End With

    Set objNewMail = Nothing
    Response.Write "mail sent successfully"

    I have already registered the dlls as Administrator using regsvr32 c:\windows\SysWOW64\cdonts.dll and

    Default Application Pool settings are set to "Enable 32-bit Applications" to TRUE, and given modify permissions for USERS to C:\inetpub\mailroot\Pickup folder.

    But still i am getting the same error message.

    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    CDONTS was discontinued after Server 2000. MS moved to CDOSYS instead.

    In 2003, there was an optional CDONTS installer. I had to use this years ago.
    I moved to CDOSYS for my scripts at some point in the past.

    I don't know that CDONTS is even available in Server 2008.

    I see discussions on For example:
    That's probably the best place for this topic.

    Honestly, it's just as easy to rewrite small scripts to use CDOSYS.
    The syntax is almost the same, from what I recall. It's been quite a few years since I did that.
