    phpBB or MyBB.

    Paid...
    IPB or vBulletin.

    Large fonts are annoying.

Why do all your posts have to be rolleyes?

vBulletin is my personal choice, however phpBB is good too.

You can use vBulletin if you have some bucks to lash out.

If not go with PhpBB or MyBB.

You should also have a look at Xenforo. These guys are the old vBulletin coders. I still stick to vBulletin because of the CMS, but Xenforo is looking really slick.

    vBulletin or xenforo

xenforo is still lacking some of the features of vbulletin, but it'll get there.

XMB is also good. very underrated in my opinion. Adding hacks is quite easy and the themes are very configurable.

Administration area is set up very good also.

    Plus its free!!

Why do you say that? It's regularly updated, works well, has all the features you could need...then there is the whole plethora of mods out there.

vB3 is absolutely amazing, i think this website uses it.
vB4 on the other hand is an absolute mess. Take a look at the licensed customer's forum.

indeed the vbulletin coders are horrible. i filed a vbulletin bug back when 4.0 was in beta stage. i found the bug reported and verified. but the bugfix keep getting pushed to the next releases and so on. now my report has been pushed to vb 4.2

my bugreport is not the only one, they gather alot of minor bugs and delay the fixes until later

Yeah, i wouldn't waste my time with vb anymore. Go with one of the alternatives like xenForo or IPB or free ones like myBB and phpBB.

    Free:
    SMF or PHPBB

    Paid:
    Vbulletin

I've used all three, they all are good. Mybb also looks decent, but I havent used it much.

    Free: phpBB

A lot of resources and add-ons are available on the official site, along with a huge, helpful community.

    Paid: IPB

I switched from vBulletin to IPB over a year ago, and my forum has grown considerably as a result. It's also (for me, anyway) the easiest to skin.

I use MyBB for everything, I like it's features alot more than phpBB's
