Alert service for expired domain's availability?

    Hi,

Several times, we come to such situations when client forgot to renew the domain renewal due to certain reasons and when domain goes to Redemption period, they want to renew the same but don't want to pay the domain restoration fee. So they want to renew the domain as soon as it is available again.

How do you people deal with such situations? Is there any reminder/alert services which will send an email when the domain is available again?

The domain registrar should be sending the renewal reminders. The issue with domains is that each extension kind of have their own rules about when a domain is able to be renewed. Some start at 60 days or 30 days etc.

But really the domain provider should be sorting this so the end customer goes and renews instead of letting it expire / go to redemption. Its kind of crazy if they dont.

also another way for your end customer I guess is to set auto renew within the control panel with the company they purchase the domain through.

yes, every hosting company or domain registrar having reminder facility. But after redemption period I am not sure every registrar having this service.
You can check with your registrar.

you probably right because the hosting/domain company would think if you have not renewed it during the renewal period then your not going to renew at all.

    godaddy has a monitoring service.

you input a list of domains to monitor.

iirc, when the status or nameservers or whois info changes, they send an email to you.

a small webhost could use this to monitor his customer domains. then helpfully inform them of an expiration.
