Video Streaming Hosting Solutions

I'm looking for some Video Streaming Hosting (I think)

We are planning on doing some live video lessons, but not every day, just a for a few hours on certain days of the month.

We would also have some standard video files which would be available on demand - probably using mov or flv files.

I'm not sure if I need a full dedicated video streaming server, if there are cloud solutions available, or even if this is possible using a normal apache server

If possible, it would be great if we could host our website on the same server

Can anyone point me in the right direction please

Have a host with FFMpeg supported.

Take a look at the hosting offers section for the people who offer that feature.

There are 2 options are possible:
1. Shared web hosting with media streaming support
2. Small VPS.

I suppose your choice will depend on the number of connections you will have per hour.

At the OP, do you need shared hosting or a VPS?

I don't really know what I am after... I thought I would need to get a specialist server... but judging from the answers so far, this doesn't seem to be the case.

So it is possible to Stream Live video through a normal dedicated or VPS server?

It depends on your probable traffic. If you have a lot of traffic, you can not host it on a VPS. Everything depends on your traffic.

For the live streaming, you could use either of the following:
ustream.tv
justin.tv

For serving up the mov/flv files, use JWPlayer to play them on your site and make use of a CDN (Content Delivery Network) to ensure that experience is super fast.

You need to define what video streaming is.

Is it:

a) live stream
b) videos that you watch on a video player on a website

If a, then yes you will need a VPS, dedicated or a provider which can provide you with streaming software such as wowza.

If b, then any shared hosting with ffmpeg installed will do

You can start with VPS server. It's just working the same as a small dedicated server.

Agreed, VPS is a good solution as it guarantees resources and allows you to scale up dynamically as your needs (or users) increase. You would easily be able to serve up your video and host your website on VPS.

Hello. I got a little question.
As some of you may have noticed you will find a lot of different websites where you can watch American Tv-shows for free, Some examples are watchseries.eu and fastpasstv.eu.
I have personally talked to this two sites and asked how they manage to stay legal, and they both answered that their sites works as a seachengine.
Both of this sites a hosted in Germany,( a country with weak copyright laws),
So my question is , can i host my 3rd party streaming site from countries like china(Weak copyrightlaws) without getting trouble

- Victor
