Hello,

I am having problem with hetzner for providing an extra IP address.

I know it is due to RIPE Guidelines.


What they said is they need valid reasons for providing an IP Address.

Can any one suggest some valid reasons for IP Address requests.

I am running Hosting and Shoutcast on the dedicated server.

So,plz give me some Valid reasons so they may accept the reason to provide a IP Address.

Just tell them that you need the IPs for Hosting, ShoutCast, SSL Certificates, etc...
Why can you not just tell them your real reason ?

How many IP are you looking for ? I dont think for 5-6 IP they will ask for document

i already said them man.. but they said they can't provide the IP Address as it don't fall under RIPE Guidelines.


I said to them the shoutcast scripts needs a dedicated IP Address and they said change the script so that it won't use the dedicated IP Address.

Why do you need more IPs? I am not sure if people will help you to get around Hetzner's & RIPE's Guidelines.

I asked for one Extra IP and they didn't provide me and asking me for valid reasons.I never faced this problem with other datacenters.When i place request they ask reason and i provide any reason they use to provide me a dedicated ip.but in HETZER they gone a step forward and asked me to change my script so that it uses the one ip which was provided by them.

It sounds like Hetzner is being responsible about IPv4.

There is really no need (or at least very little need) to have multiple IPs for Shoutcast. Can't you just run multiple instances on different ports?

I even said i might need an extra ip address to provide to customer websites who request it.

Even for that also they said it is not a valid reason.

What i am expecting is.. Give me some Powerful Valid Reasons so that they don't say it is not a valid reason for getting a dedicated IP.

It doesn't sound like you actually need the extra IPs, so why should they give them to you? IPv4 space is running out and there simply isn't enough for people to go around assigning extra IPs for things like SHOUTcast when you can simply use different port numbers.

If you give them bogus reasons and they catch you, chances are you won't have your server for much longer. It's never good to lie to your host.

Unless you actually have a perfectly valid reasons to get more IPv4 IP addresses, you shouldn't have more.

Hetzner is completely right here, so please take the advise and use different ports.

they provide 1 ip address ..i requested for one more ip address.

is there any thing wrong in it.

for ssl or for nameservers we don't need a dedicated ip?.

one ip is enough for two name servers?.

IF a hosting Customer needs a Dedicated Ip for his Ecommerce Site and managing SSL certificate and for credit card payments.

He needs Dedicated IP for Security Reasons.

do you think these are valid reasons?.

Why are you trying to come up with valid reasons? If you had one you would get the IP, but your just using random reasons... this is like your just getting IP's for the fun of it? and giving them out willy nilly? Also remember how your host can read this thread... be careful, if you go against their TOS, you could be suspended / terminated!
