Long 6-12 sec delay at the initial part when loading a page

I just moved to Softlayer cloud and i'm getting a loooonggg 6-12 sec delay at the initial part when loading a page then the slowly the page appears. I never have this prob in my old dedi server

    Below is my iostat

    avg-cpu: %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle
    18.13 0.01 2.67 0.25 0.03 78.92

Based on google analytics, our web traffic did not increased. In fact it decreased to half compared to 27th March. That time we were still using old dedi server. And we only get 6k plus users. This server should be able to take much more than that users, 5 core CPU with 4GB RAM, for db server and 4 core, 4GB for web server

What could cause the prob? We didn't change our code.

IO looks good, but what is your CPU specs? What kind of processors exactly?

Also do you mean you have two Cloud Servers with them, and you're clustering them into one application?

Softlayer's platform is not built for Clustering so you could also be experiencing a lot of latency between the two servers. Have you done any network or application testing to see what kind of latency you are getting between the two servers? Do you have slow queries logging enabled?

Based on your description, it's possible that it is a DNS issue. Have you looked into that yet?

Also, do you have any IPv6 AAAA records for the domain in question?

I initially thought that this could be a DNS issue but that doesn't seem to be the case as forward and reverse look ups are taking .06 seconds and .05 seconds respectively. This would also show up with the loading of individual images on the initial connection which isn't happening.

    Melwong,

Do you have a management feature with your softlayer cloud product?

I think it might be best to speak to them directly to try and get this figured out.

How is the server load? Vmstat and iostat? Sounds like I/O issues to me. Once files are in the cache it loads quickly, ect.
