    iweb smart servers review

    Hi,

    I bought a Intel Dual-Core i3-540 3.06GHz server from iweb.com in 9.04.2011 with cpanel+ 10gb r1soft backup.

its a 500gb server.. with 10gb r1soft, so i esspecially told "I just want to backup OS,cpanel. Dont want to backup website's files." before i buy. They said ok.

Then i paid and they opened server ( in less then 2 hours ).
Those are problems what i saw after i reach server:

    1) Server was 2GB with a little note: "A small amount of the RAM will be reserved for the Smart Layer provisioning system."
in cpanel Memory: 1.395.712 -> 1.3 GB total usable. %30+ of total ram is a small amount that reserved.

    2) i3-540 have Hyper-Threading. http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=46473
But cat /proc/cpuinfo says my system not using HT.

    3) r1soft backup didnt configured. Its just trying to backup whole server. I esspecially said them i dont want whole backup. Actually you cant backup whole 500gb server to 10gb right? RQ #4317362 is ticket number. 2 days left and still no answer.

    4) I tried to talk with "live chat" about this problems, he basically didnt care and just said "reply to that ticket"

    5) I opened a money-back request from their "Satisfaction guarantee" system, still waiting for an answer. RQ #4318307 is ticket.

I will write what will happen after this here. I am so sad about this.

out of curiosity, why would you want to back up replacable and reinstallable os/cpanel instead of your data?

    1) Server was 2GB with a little note: "A small amount of the RAM will be reserved for the Smart Layer provisioning system." in cpanel Memory: 1.395.712 -> 1.3 GB total usable. %30+ of total ram is a small amount that reserved.
You should have at least 1.5GB of usable RAM according to our release post here. We are currently working on optimizations but they are not ready yet. If it is too much for you, talk about it with our team we can probably work something out to upgrade RAM for you.

    2) i3-540 have Hyper-Threading. http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=46473
But cat /proc/cpuinfo says my system not using HT.
This is currently a known limitation of Smart Servers. I will try to get an update on the HT situation with the dev team.

    3) r1soft backup didnt configured. Its just trying to backup whole server. I esspecially said them i dont want whole backup. Actually you cant backup whole 500gb server to 10gb right? RQ #4317362 is ticket number. 2 days left and still no answer.
I do not think you can choose the files you want to backup with our R1Soft service, it does a backup of all the existing files of the system but only the real data in use so if you have a 500GB disk you might have only 10GB of data on the disk. Your backup package should match with your real data usage.

    5) I opened a money-back request from their "Satisfaction guarantee" system, still waiting for an answer. RQ #4318307 is ticket.
If that is what you want we will refund your money but I hope we can keep you at iWeb as a happy customer !

I just was thinking on get one of these or some clearance deals that they have, but unfortunately i has not seen in any forum or review webs any good from the support of IWEB, great installations and data center, I'm sure that Martin and his partners has been working hard for that.

@atchoooo, When do you think the bandwidth pooling will be available for the supersmart servers?

I'm just waiting for it to get a bunch of supersmart server!

You get 20TB with superSmart, you still need to pool? The truth is for the moment we do not monitor traffic on superSmart, so I would say you can pool as you which as long as your usage do not cause problems to other customers it will be fine.

    Any more review?

I might be getting two Core2 Duo 2.9GHz 4GB and two Dual Xeon 2.13GHz H/T with 6GB and maybe an other one with lot of dataspace for backup.

But I don't want to do this a face problems. I had bad experience with iWeb in the past (using colocation). Support and network have always been great, but when trying to get/buy something new, it was always a mess... don't think I'll have this trouble with Smart server anyway.

    Agree with you,

Before you look the smart servers, take a look on the clearance rack, maybe you will find some very good, smartservers are ok, but....

    Great review

atchoooo, thanks for the info on the 20TB. If I look the way you wrote, it make sense that 20TB is more than enough!

    SmartServer are awesome!

Ok this is weird. Nothing getting fix till i write it in webhostingtalk.com. At least we have this site, Thanks God!

RQ #4387035 is ticket. Nearly 1 month ago i tried this system. I send a request for closing server. They said "we will closed it". I got refund but server still running and spamming me with my company domain name:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.

The hostname (hostname.mycompany.com) resolves to 123.456.789.2. It
should resolve to 123.456.789.1. Please be sure to correct
/etc/hosts as well as the 'A' entry in zone file for the domain.
and lots of Login Attempts etc.. I didnt saw those since all of them droping to spam folder and i never check my spam folder. But i did accidently and saw all spams -.-'

thanks for letting my domain name marks as spammer. I really needed that but i am still getting spams so.. Can you seriously remove that server? What are u doing? Checking my website files??

Server has been shutdown. Looking at why the system did not remove access to it when it was closed, it was waiting for a reassignment.

We've logged into the server and did : shutdown -h now

You will no longer receive the error messages.
Come on.. why not deleting it? you can re-install it etc.. right?
