I'm mitigating another denial of service attack at the moment, it takes me a few minutes to gather the IPs and start blocking them at the firewall. At the moment the site is running stable and I'm just waiting for any new IPs to come in.

Sounds fair. But do you guys have any ddos protection?

That's why my phone browser keeps giving me 500, 400 and 404.
Way to go WHT. Keep the spirit.

I'm afraid I can't disclose anything about our mitigation strategies; that information would end up being used against us during another attack. Sorry

Hehe, DDOS is somehow annoying...I wonder why so many people keep doing those.
    Maybe on strategic servers...but WHT...

Im sorry your having to constantly deal with this buddy, there is no reason for it........

I thought we had DDOS protection on this site??

You could set the firewall to AUTOBLOCK any IP that sends more than X amount of traffic within a certain time Mat..

Another VBB site im on has it this way which i accidently found out the hard way the other day when i kept refreshing the whos online list too quickly i guess within an X amount of time .. I was blocked for about 20 mins if i remember right..... (I gotta be quite carefull on that site )

Its a full proof way of blocking DDOS attacks though!

This may have been an accurate statement a couple of years ago. Modern low and slow attacks will uses large botnets to hit the site in phases, with a fraction of the bots attacking at any given time. Each bot then attacks for short bursts to avoid detection. The bots look amazingly similar to real humans and are increasingly difficult to detect and mitigate.

The process is not at all easy.
