I just thought I would say a few words about tlchosting.co.uk. I am in no way putting them down or bad mouthing them, I am voicing my opinion of a scenario that happened to me.
Late last month, I was looking around for another host when I came across tlchosting.co.uk, whose packages were quite good for the price. Although I think about it now, I think they are overselling by a big way.
They were offering a free trial of services, so at least I didnt have to part with any money. They also offered a Hostbill license to go with the reseller account. Great I thought. So I signed up. I got my account setup and thought, so far so good. A couple of days later tlchosting.co.uks website was offline. My account was unaccessible. This went on for about a week and I noticed yesterday that their website is backup now. But heres the thing. This is the excuse they have put on their website:
08/04/2011: Recent weather issues had forces us to close, but we are back. We are currently in the process of getting what we can from backups and restoring them. We have also moved our servers to a different location, with better weather protection and new hardware has been added to help this.
08/04/2011: All services are running normally and sign ups are now being accepted.
Now I am from the UK, and can verify that we have had no bad weather that could cause major concern here, however the servers were based in Dallas from Softlayer and well lets just say that they havent had any issues with the weather either. I also did a WHOIS check to see if they are actually based in the UK and found that they have opted out of the WHOIS output. Which I thought was illegal. If you are offering a service on a .co.uk I was under the impression you had to be visible.
I am not going to re-sign up with them, as I am now with NetMagics and their services have been so far, great. But I thought I would warn people about the experience I have had recently. All I can say is glad I didnt part with any cash, even if their prices are very low.
I did try to find any other reviews on TLCHosting.co.uk but couldnt so I guess this is the first.
Would love to hear from anyone else with their reviews too.

It does seem a rather far fetched excuse. I'm sure that if there had been weather conditions severe enough to affect a datacentre, we would have read about it in the news.
I have a server in Dallas, and it was not affected by "the weather".
Your right about the Whois info. Nominet rules state that you can not hide the Whois info if the domain is used for business. It you report it to nominet they will remove the Whois protection.

That is correct, report them to Nominet
They will then inspect the website and if is clearly being used for commercial use will contact the Registrant
to update the WHOIS, removing the opt-out
If they fail to do so within 28 days, go back and take a look
If they have failed to do so, report again that the WHOIS has not been updated, Nominet will then force it through, plus adding an option that prevents the Registrant from making any changes in the future
A bit of hoo-haa and hassle, but well worth it
I have done numerous reports to Nominet, and all but a few have been completed within the 28 days, one was even suspended as Nominet found other WHOIS breaches (which only became visible when the Registrant performed the update)
As for using weather as an excuse for closing...
Sounds like an excuse, and a poor one at that
