erm its pretty simple for shoutcast.

I would suggest you use ubuntu for ease of usage and finding online guides to help you through it.

Just download the shoutcast source and extract -> http://yp.shoutcast.com/downloads/sc...8_Linux.tar.gz

edit sc_serv.conf accordingly. Dont have to touch the advanced portion of the conf file. Just need to set your listening port, admin password.

If your laptop / pc is using windows, just download winamp player and the dsp plugin. The dsp plugin is here http://download.nullsoft.com/shoutca...-3-windows.exe

Launch winamp, launch the dsp plugin, edit the server source according base on your conf file and start djing.

I did a lot of experimenting with Internet radio 7-8 years ago. Unfortunately I've forgotten most of it.

There's one thing I'd recommend though. However you set it up, make sure the VPS is not doing any reprocessing/resampling of the stream. If it is, it will chew up a lot of CPU and memory. The VPS should only act as a relay, allowing multiple listeners to connect and listen.

So if you want to server a 64kbps stream (for example), you should produce the 64kbps stream on your local computer and send it to your VPS. Then the VPS redistributes it, unaltered, to listeners.

Doing it that way will take relatively little CPU and memory on the VPS -- but of course it could consume lots of bandwidth

    Here you go:

    ssh into the server:

    1. (download shoutcast files to server)
    wget http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads/s...-glibc6.tar.gz

    2. (untar files)
    tar -zxvf shoutcast-1-9-5-linux-glibc6.tar.gz

    3. (rename folder)
    mv shoutcast-1-9-5-linux-glibc6 shoutcast

    4.(remove downloaded file)
    rm shoutcast-1-9-5-linux-glibc6.tar.gz

    5. now you could either ftp into ur server and config sc_serv.conf or use shell editor (pico or nano) depending on the whats install on the box

    pico sc_serv.conf
    or
    nano sc_serv.conf

    6. (edit config)
    Edit sc_serv.conf file as needed
    maxuser
    password
    port

remore the ; infront of adminpassword and set a password

    7. (save config)
ctrl-x to save and exit the editor

    8.(start the server)
    ./sc_serv sc_serv.conf
