will two HD improve the performance ?

    Hi,

    for the same CPU/RAM...etc,

    a) one 7200rpm HD
    b) two 7200rps HD without any raid

i want to download many files,
save all the files to one HD,and separate files to different HD as b) describe,

will the performance have much difference?

    thanx

If there is no RAID and they are 2 separate hard drives then performance won't be affected at all, it will just mean you have larger capacity.

Two hard drives can still improve performance. For example, you may place MySQL on one drive and standard web content on the other. Perhaps even use an SSD for MySQL, and SATA for everything else.

    Raid0 does improve performance.

True, but that is not what he is going to do. He said just to place the files between the drives.

RAID1 would be the best option in case one drive fails, then at least you still have a working system.
