Well it's more of a laptop issue. I got water marks on my screen when i never once leave water near my PC. Dell wanted to not honor my warantee when i had told them I buy a lot from dell and i wont buy from them again they had me send them the laptop. They then wanted $400 to fix it and said it was my fault I talked to a supervisor and they did it for free but after that I just won't touch a dell.

I use Supermicro every time. For high end servers, you can get better hardware and spend less by using Supermicro parts.

Dell here. IMO, Supermicro design is inferior to Dell in every way.

Supermicro has better flexibility in configurations and faster turn around times.

Dell. Economy of scale can't be argued with. Supermicro is micro compared to Dell- literally!

does it because you can diy the server with different supermicro part, and dell only can wait their support to place replacement..etc? because main issue i think is dell has less flexibility than supermicro,im not sure if it is correct.thanx

Supermicro -F mainboards have IPMI build in. This IPMI supports KVM/IP with remote media and therefore can be compared with DRAC enterprise card in functionality.
Add a DRAC Enterprise card to your Dell server - and you will find that Supermicro is substantially cheaper compared to Dell servers.
Supermicro is also more flexible in amount of hostswap drive bays and their 24 disk chassis has a nice port extender that allows you to use 4 port raid controllers to control 24 HDD.
On that issue - dells raid controller are not as good as some comparable raid controllers out there. With Supermicro you can choose your own raid controller - a significant advantage.

Dell is ok but Supermicro delivers better value for money and much more flexibility and choice.

+1 for Supermicro. I've a client that switched from Dell to Supermicro and he says that it is much more stable than the Dell server. I've never touched that Dell servers as we are working with Supermicro only, but the client seems very satisfied that he sold Dell's.

Have you tried going to supermicro and saying that Dell will do a 3 year warranty, and see if they are able to give you an extra warranty in return for you going with them?

I only have 1 supermicro server, and i've never had a problem in the 4 years i've owned it

Personally I prefer Dell, but that's because i've always used Dell & HP hardware at work. The IPMI on Dell hardware is much better than supermicro

Many Supermicro resellers have the option to give you 3 years warranty (at a price).

    Care to elaborate?

We are building some super micro servers with IPMI and I am curious with what you said. Maybe I missed something?

The remote management on Dell, I personally think is better than Supermicro. You can monitor more through it, and you don't have to install software on the server to manage it. From memory the IPMI needs a second cable on Supermicro, but Dell doesn't

You can monitor nearly everything trough Supermicro IPMI. Latest mainboards allow you to put all IPMI settings in the BIOS (so you do not need a separate tool) and you usually have the choice depending what mainboard version you take: dedicated LAN or shared LAN.
Since you have a dedicated LAN option, you can place IPMI on a Private network - make a VPN gateway to it and therefore, increase security.

From what I understand, IPMI is configured in another port so even if the OS files corrupted, you can just reload a fresh OS and be online. Not even sure if you need the IPMI software to load in the drive?

Correct me if I am wrong.

Damn what an ignorant dumb client that was!

Dell components are tested together to make sure they are stable, you will never get that even with *compatibly* list from SM vendors
    'Ripcord'ing is the only way!
