Now my issue is the CPU likes to max out on 1 core most of the time. I have tried many things like turning off HT, Ramdisk, Port upgrade and such. I know none of that would solve the CPU on 1 core but people always say its other things AND NOT THE MAXED OUT MAIN thread.
So my issue is come down to this.. Java 1.7 on CentOS 64bit machine using Ramdisk for the world and still hitting max cpu on 1 core where the other cores bounce up 10 times less....
We all know Notch is not a good coder and that is not what I'm here to complain about. It's more like is there a better processor that might give me say that extra 50% speed? Some crazy company that offers not cheap but good priced OC Quad Cores?
Maybe it's something with CentOS or Java?
Its really killing me and so I thought I ask what you guys thought because things are getting worse overtime.
i7 is not good for minecraft, better get some older Xeons or newer i5/i7 - they have up to 3,8Ghz per core.
This helps with minecraft, more cores dont.
I wouldn't suggest using an "older xeon", but I would suggest something that has faster cores instead of more cores, like Edis said. The i5-680 clocks at 3.6ghz dual core, so should be the fastest thing you can get for running a single minecraft server.
