I've been away for quite some time, but bored and came up with some ideas.
I got a VPS now, I'm a little rusty as I haven't setup/secured a server in 2-3 years. (Don't worry I catch up quick).
I'm looking for Advice on what I should install.
Right now I've got 300gb and 256ram to play with, when I need more i'll expand but right now this was really cheap and I wanted to practice a little bit before I went to a full blown dedicated server.
So.... I'm looking to host 3 of my VERY small websites (1000 visitors per month and text based content only, no media) on this VPS.
What do you guys advise as far as Free Control panels to install and are there any updated full guides / tutorials on what all firewalls / configs you should do? Way back when like 3+ years ago I always was a huge fan of eth00 's tutorials, helped me out loads, are there anything like those existing these days with 3-4 year newer softwares?
Hah Yeah that page is a bit outdated...actually working on revitalizing it just not enough hours in the day!
For free control panel you may want to checkout Webmin or ISPConfig.
CSF is a pretty good/easy to use firewall frontend, APF is a good but still good one.
That should get you started, of course making sure "yum update" is fully up to date. Assuming you are using an openvz vps you won't have control of the kernel so you don't have to worry about that.
thanks, figured just as much. already ran yum update. was thinking about apf but will checkout CSF first.
webmin is still the best free control panel eh? haha... thought something better would have developed by now. will checkout isp config, looking at vhcs too, probably will stick with webmin since it's gonna be the widest used.
