What is it?

A hosted Asterisk server is a remote telephone system. You can connect multiple VOIP handsets or soft-phones to it and make free calls between the extensions.
You can also set up inbound and outbound trunks that allow you to make and receive calls to the normal telephone network.


What inbound/outbound trunk providers can I use?

You can use any provider that supports the SIP or IAX2 protocol. You can also configure multiple providers on your system and route your calls via the least expensive.

Can I get a regular telephone number?

Yes, you can purchase a regular telephone number from any provider that supports SIP/IAX2. This number could be a local telephone number anywhere in the world.

How do I configure Asterisk?

All of the popular distributions (Trixbox, Elastix, PBX-in-a-flash ...) come with a web GUI enabling you to configure your system in a web browser.

Which distribution should I choose?

Current distributions available are Elastix, Trixbox, PBX-in-a-flash and FreePBX/A2Billing. All templates include the same basic functionality (Asterisk/FreePBX) but each distribution has extra features. If you unsure which template to choose please get in touch to discuss your requirements. It is possible to change your choice of distribution after ordering.
