    Question Installing mysql from source

    I was using this command to install mysql:

    yum install mysql-server mysql php-mysql mysql-devel
    And now i want to try the custom install on my Centos server and i need some help on how to do it from source.

    I will need Myisam and Innodb support.

    I will use a forum (php and html).

    Please send me some instructions to do the custom setup with correct parameters to use for a forum.

    Thank you

    To make things easier, check the following

    groupadd mysql

    useradd -g mysql -c "MySQL Server" -d /dev/null -s /sbin/nologin mysql

    cd /usr/local/src/mysql* or whatever the path of the source files

    chown -R root.root *

    ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --localstatedir=/usr/local/mysql/data --disable-maintainer-mode --with-mysqld-user=mysql --with-unix-socket-path=/tmp/mysql.sock --without-comment --without-debug --without-bench

    make install

    chown -R root:mysql /usr/local/mysql

    chown -R mysql:mysql /usr/local/mysql/data

    cp support-files/my-medium.cnf /etc/my.cnf

    chown rootys /etc/my.cnf

    chmod 644 /etc/my.cnf

    echo "/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql" >> /etc/

    cp ./support-files/mysql.server /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql

    chmod +x /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql

    /sbin/chkconfig --level 3 mysql on

    cd /usr/local/mysql/bin

    for file in *; do ln -s /usr/local/mysql/bin/$file /usr/bin/$file;

    vi /etc/my.cnf

    Uncomment skip-networking

    cd ~

    /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S90mysql start

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql start

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql stop

    mysqladmin version

    mysqladmin -u root password kdun98

    mysql -u root -p

    drop database test;
    use mysql;
    delete from db;
    delete from user where not (host="localhost" and user="root");
    flush privileges;

    update user set user="sqladmin" where user="root";
    flush privileges;

    create database foo;

    drop database foo;
