    How to setup website on small VPS ?

    Hi,
    I have a VPS, very small
    RAM 128 MB - bur-stable upto 256 MB
    1IP

    I want to setup a small website of few pages (testing html and php pages only)
    On CentOS basis, I installed apache and php
    But it is under hotnname like abcpqr.sampleserver.tld

    But I want to add a domain www.sample1.tld
    What entries I have to do under apache config files ?

    Is it necessary to run BIND9 ?
    Can I setup NS1 and NS2 under 1 IP with hostname ?

    Need assistance.

    BTW, I bought it from buyvm, for testing scripts and playing around it

    • Does anyone know if there is a DNS/Bind tutorial posted here at WHT yet?
    • It's pretty hard the first time on a VPS w/ no control panel.

    The apache part is easy:
    Code:
    NameVirtualHost 94.1xx.1xx.34:80

    <VirtualHost 94.1xx.1xx.34:80>
    DocumentRoot "/var/www/html/1domain.com"
    ServerName 1domain.com
    ServerAlias www.1domain.com *.1domain.com
    <Directory "/var/www/html/1domain.com">
    allow from all
    AllowOverride All
    Options +Indexes
    </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>

    <VirtualHost 94.1xx.1xx.34:80>
    DocumentRoot "/var/www/html/domain2.com"
    ServerName domain2.com
    ServerAlias www.domain2.com *.domain2.com
    <Directory "/var/www/html/domain2.com">
    allow from all
    AllowOverride All
    Options +Indexes
    </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>

    Is it necessary to run BIND9 ?
    Bind is not the only option, but it works great for me:
    • yum install bind

    Can I setup NS1 and NS2 under 1 IP with hostname ?
    Yes

    There, I answered all your questions, and you still don't know how to do it.

    ^^^
    Here is exactly how I did my first unmanaged VPS without any *invasive* Control Panel

    1) Install Webmin
    2) Find related tutorials

    ^^^
    At this point here is one of the best things I could offer you:

    • I haven't had to do this "from scratch" for at least 6 months.
    • I'm at least ~98% certain this is the exact file you need.
    • If it's already on your system, just go with the one you already have.

    If you do not already have this file, then finding it here may save you a lot of frustration and excess "Googling":
    • File attached as 'db.cache.txt' change name to 'db.cache' and place in /etc/

    ;This file holds the information on root name servers needed to
    ;initialize cache of Internet domain name servers
    ^^^
    For some reason bind (named) *has to have* that file, but it is not (or did not used to be) installed by default.

    Have fun
