    Dedicated Server for VPS Hosting

Hi WHT. I am currently looking for a good network and good provider for me to start VPS hosting on. I would need the following:

    8 to 16GB RAM
    Quadcore CPU
    5TB Minimum Bandwidth
1 Harddrive (Must be big enough for VPS Hosting and support RAID 1/10)

There is no budget but cheaper the better. Also looking for good support network but managed is not needed.

Is there any particular location your interested in or where most of your clients are near? I see that your from Australia, will you be catering towards clients in your country?

I'd recommend 4 drives in a raid 10 setup for a server like this.

One hard drive alone cannot run RAID. You will need multiple drives.

Are you looking for North America, Europe or other?

Just off the bat, I'd recommend LeaseWeb, Netherlands. No management, but good support and you can pay for higher-availability support.

As for VPS hosting, I advice going for a RAID10 setup, it will give you better performance than a RAID1 setup.
I am also interested to know what location you are looking for.

As for CPU, I would go for the X3440 Xeons or, if you can afford, a dual CPU, the 2x E5620.

You need 2 drives minimum for RAID 1. 4 drives minimum for RAID 10.

Would suggest a RAID 10 setup. You should check the find a host section as well.

While RAID-10 is not mandatory , its highly recommended.

as we see, you are on the budget side of the field, which means its RAID-1 Mirror for you as minimum.

it will work fine if you do not oversell or overload the server with heavy applications which are disk intensive .

CPU wise, look for a CPU with lots of cache memory, at least 6M if not 8M.

you did not specify what OS you will be running on.
keep in mind, Windows solutions require more power from the hardware due to the OS overhead and footprint.

500 a month, Can invest a little more.

As I said though the cheaper the better, I can invest that money in other things this way.

For around 500 a month you can get Dual Xeon Quadcore and RAID 10. I would suggest to go for Dual Xeon 5504 or 5520.

I think $500 is a bit high for what you're looking to do. Any number of providers could get you what you're looking for, for well under $300.

Finding something on the East coast can be beneficial. That way it'll be central to your US and European visitors.

What virtualization software are you planning on using?
