How much to pay for advertising?

Hi All,

So we're looking to advertise at a few blogs/sites, which are getting around 40-50k uniques /month. We're just wondering how much we should be paying, for a 768x90 banner on the home page (which is the only viewed page). The blog's audience falls into our hosting audience, so it's an ideal advertising spot for us.

We just want to make sure we don't pay much more then the average rate for this amount of uniques.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I suppose that depends on the niche of those blogs. Your visitors should be targeted.
I suppose that is better have 5vistors a day with 3-4 sales rather then 50-60k visitors a day with no sales at all.

Yes the blog targets our audience. Would you be able to recommend a price for both non-targeted and targeted? (just so it gives us an idea)

I guess you should use your usual cost to acquire a new client as upper limit.

I'd be hesitant to pay more than $20-30/mo for a placed ad, unless the niche is exactly what you're looking for and the ad spot is perfect. Typically I've found click-throughs from ad placements like that to be a little less than expected, and the benefits barely outweigh what you can do via cheaper methods (AdWords, etc).

Quality work is great, but it all boils down to profit-cost. If it's not economical to get the advertising, then why bother about quality?
