Pesronal Dedicate Document Server
I have a PC on my home network running Apache, MySQL and PHP 5. I recently scanned all my paper documents and saved them as PDFs. I would like (and I have a real need)to put all my documents on this server and make them accessible from anywhere with my phone. I was wondering if this is possible and if so, is it possible to set up email and fax capabilities on this server. In other words, when I am out with my phone and someone says, "do you happen to have this document with you?" I can say "just a minute", then look it up and either email it to them or fax it to them.
Thank you

How many documents do you have? You're probably much better off using something like DropBox. It's free up to 2gb and it has applications for iphone, android, and blackberry too.

2GB might be enough but I still don't think this will do everything I wanted. I have a 1TB hard drive and wanted to do this to be useful, for something to do and as a way to learn about Apache and servers. I was hoping the email and fax capabilities were possible and if so, do I need extra software for this?
Thank you.

I will also suggest you to use DropBox. It is compatible with iPhone, and BlackBerry, and it comes with 2 Gb free storage.
It has everything you need to share files or have remote access to them from everywhere.

What else are you looking to do? As far as email and fax capabilities, you'd probably be better off trying to find a way to do this with your phone, any smartphone will at least do email. If you want this functionality on the server side of course it's possible, but you'd have to design a custom script.

Dropbox is really perfect for this, as its accessed from any other PC as well, you just need account there.
they allow 2GB of free space as well.
