For something like Mozy, check out XZBackup. Quite expensive though.

WebbyCart is the cheapest around for off-site backups and hard to beat by others.
They got recently some problems with a server (7) but they solve this wisely with migrate each account to a new server. Also not sure that you can resell WebbyCart backups services.

I'm confused by the OP's post. Are you asking about what hardware would be needed to run your own online data backup service? Or are you asking for online data backup providers like Mozy?

I just want to start a new business: Offering online backup for my customers.

I'm trying to see/test all solutions:
1/ Fully rebranded white-label software and service (partner program such as SOSonlinebackup, etc.). Problem here that I have to find their provider, so then I can propose cheap offers.
2/ Bying software and server seperatly ?
    3/ other solution ?

p.s: Please excuse-me for my bad English.

Actually serversync.com has some comparable plans to WebbyCart and are a bit better as far as price on several plans. They also allow you to resell the backup space for a $10 fee each month.

I have been using them for a few years now and their service has been great. ServerSync is run by Acunett which is a very reputable company.

If the backup data is personal computers or company data, I think you'll run into the requirements for storing financial information, which means different things in different jurisdictions. I think going the fully rebranded route is the way to go.

I know there are very strict guidelines here in the US if you are storing personal financial information. Just to store any of the information on credit cards, for instance, you have to have PCI compliance validated annually, have the server physically secured (usually the data center puts it into a locked cage), with controlled access. You are already into the very expensive area of dedicated server hosting.

If you build your client base up to a certain level, you can then branch out on your own. Trying to do it on the cheap may expose you to criminal law as well as civil law.

As I can see, Serversync has a very intersting plans. I will go for 1T=$100/month.
Then I have to look for a software that my customer will download to backup their data, is it right ?
Do you know where can I find this kind of software ?

Sorry Kevin, not sure we talk about the same serversync.com here; but I pay
WebbyCart for 100 Gig backup storage $99.90/year and this is far from the $150/year that serversync ask.

@ Developer-tn; using software to download is what the situation is.

Is this for pc backups - or for shared hosting/reseller hosting accounts or for a vps or for a dedicated server? These lasts can be done without additional software.

I would suggest determining your market first. Windows or *nix clients? Manual backups or automated ones? Etc.

All of that can greatly impact your offerings and pricing.

Windows and OsX with automated backups.

Combining a server from serversync.com and a software from backupagent.com will solve the problem ?
