    Mysql and Memory

    I have clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 server. I installed mysql-server.
    Even with no databases, the mysqld shows 140mb used.

    Is this normal ?

    I'm not a Linux expert, so please wait until one of them chimes in, but I'd say this is about normal.

    Yes, that's normal. The list isn't showing anything out of line.

    mysql allocates a certain amount of memory for things like buffer pools and such. If innodb is enabled, there is multiple variables that account for memory usage. Do a > show variables; and look for things like innodb_buffer_pool_size is usually the biggest.

    Yeah this is normal even under centos. I usually grab a VPS optimized version of the mysql config file my.cnf. Here's a copy:
