Need SSL Cert recommendation

Weird, last 2 days ago I was about to purchase a cert from RapidSSL listed as $49 on their site but today I saw the price went up to $79! Doesn't leave a good impression to me.

Just wondering if anybody can recommend any other place to buy cert and is reliable??

I would say godaddy its about $49/year, you can also received discounts if you opt-in for the multiple year option.

Thanks thaman, do you have any idea what's the difference with the prices? Any catches or limitations? And the most important thing is, I do not wish my user to receive confirmation prompt to accept the certificate trust.

Their is no difference, limitations etc, its just like any other SSL certificate - Godaddy has a much bigger client base so they can offer these at a cheaper price.

You can definitely get a cheaper RapidSSL around. 49$ Looks pretty expensive.

If you wanted to low cost SSL if you find an eNom provider they should be able to sell you an SSL for $10 USD ish as eNom sell them for $9.95 per year.

Just a thought, and hope it helps.

Seriously I need a cert to support multiple sub-domains preferably for a startup project. The project has not taken off yet and I do not wish to spent too much without knowing how many client accounts I'm able to clinch.

The cost at GoDaddy is quite costly:
Single Domains with Unlimited Sub Domains (Wildcard) - $199.99/yr

Just saw on Namecheap.com which is a lot cheaper:

Secures multiple subdomains of a single domain: $89/yr
But 99.3% browser compatibility. (Not sure how many browser it supports but I assume all latest?)

I have been using Namecheap to buy domain names for many years now and I understand they are eNom reseller right?

That sort of cert is quite expensive. A cheaper alternative is to map folders in your main domain to your subdomains (e.g. using symlinks). So, for example, instead of users going to https://subsite.mydomain.com they go to https://mydomain.com/subsite (but only for secure connections).

Ultimately, you probably want separate certificates (and IP addresses) so they don't all have to be part of "mydomain" but that's even more expensive. My way you still see the mydomain bit but you only need one cheap certificate.

Hey Phil, that's actually how my application is being built (symlink), but I'd want my user to access their individual account by sub.mydomain.com.

I'm not sure if I need an SSL cert which supports multiple or just single would do the trick for me?

It seems like a RapidSSL Certificate would fit your requirements, it costs only $9.95/year at NameCheap:
