I had enough with Dreamhost! Please recommend another service provider

Hi all,

I have been with Dreamhost since 2006 and after today's huge outage, I simply had enough!

I am after a UNIX provider where I can host around 4 WordPress sites and 2 CakePHP applications. My MySQL usage is around 150Mb (for all sites combined) using 6 databases. Email should be allowed to be handled through Google Apps. I tend to work a lot with subdomains (I have around 11). My average bandwidth usage is 3.3 GB.
Finally, if it offers a SVN repository would be ideal.

At the moment I pay 130$ but I am wiling to pay more.

Thanks in advance,

Soumis

I've been hosting a site on linode for less than a month, and so far I've been impressed. You start with a base linux install, and you do whatever you want from there. You can install Apache, MySQL, SVN, and whatever else you want your way, and then set up your email separately on your domain. Your should be able to get well above what you require within your budget.

Sorry to hear about your poor experience with Dreamhost, best of luck in your search for a new provider.

Your budget is certainly reasonable, should be able to find a good provider that treats you right

Good luck!

Linode starts at $19.95 is a VPS. OP wants to stay around $10 and is currently using shared hosting.

Did you read the post? He says he pays $130, and is willing to pay more. $80 at linode will get you 2GB ram, 800GB transfer, and 64GB storage.

What makes you think it's per month? Sounds like per year.

Yeah, my bet is per year. Its a good budget and your requirements are more than reasonable.

Let us know when you narrow it down to a few providers and we can give you some more input if you like.

There's a lot of good hosts in the $10/monthly range.

If I ever go back to shared hosting, MDDHosting would be at the top of my short list.

That's not unique to HostGator

Any provider running CloudLinux can make it available in the cPanel easily and any provider without CloudLinux could do so with a custom cPanel plugin if they felt inclined to.

It's just not unique to HostGator, unlike what you implied.

Personally, I believe you will have an overall better experiencing by going with a web hosting company that is offering realistic web hosting plans.

With that being said, I know there are literally thousands of companies on the net today, so here are some companies I have found during my time here on WHT who for the most part get nothing but positive (legitimate) reviews from their clientele.

MDDHosting, Stable Host, DowntownHost, Hawkhost..

That should get you moving in the right direction. Best of luck!
