It's very funny, but very scary at the same time. I don't know if anyone else would be brave enough to admit it, but that was me once, about 15 years ago, which I sold for the value of the customers. It was me again about 8 years ago, with one exception, my servers were actually in a data center, then I sold again.

Always feels good looking back at where you once where, to where you are now.

    Cheers,

I hope this isn't true, lol. Even when I had my own development/hosting biz in high school this would have made me laugh. There's no excuse for having a setup like that and selling it to people. That's incredibly dishonest business.

I have never had a hosting business, but yeah - I'd say this would be unacceptable

  29. #29
Those who have operations like that are almost doomed from the start and should not expect to become a successful company. Too many potential issues could arise if you have internal operations like that! IMO

I wouldn't go as far as saying like that photo completely, but the first small design/hosting business I had as a teenager while in school, was out of my house on a home server, with all security measures in place and an actual UPS that lasted 24 hours for that server. Never had a single complaint from any of my clients then, and they all knew where their service was. It's not like I was hosting Apple or Microsoft lol.

    We all start somewhere.

I'm surprised anyone ever hosted at home though - my "first" was a colo, I would never have thought of hosting at home..

I only did that first time around, because at the time, 12 - 15 years agoish, I had a server that I ran ( gaming related ), a ups, and optic to my house already, so for me, starting up, and most of clients I knew personally, it just made sense. But that was then and this is now, and like I said, we all started somewhere lol

With business class FiOS, it's almost a waste not to host at least your personal stuff at home.
