stay away of skynethosting.net

I cant stress this enough.. I ve been with them for 5 years (on multiple plans at times) and now that i decided to cancel my plan with them they werent even serious enough to give me a backup..

to get a long story short, my credit card was full so the monthly payment was not completed but all previous payments were fine! Once i saw that the payment was not complete i decided it was the time to cancel since i was about to cancel anyway at some point and to also avoid configuring a new credit card and paying for one more month for something i would cancel the next day..

So i submitted a ticket asking for the ip and the credentials of the server so i could backup everything before the account was cancelled. All the domains hosted to this plan were hosted now at another host so i had no way to connect to the server without knowing the ip.. and just in case i also asked for the credentials because their tickets take too long to answer, so if i needed the credentials after getting the ip it would be a good 24 hours AT LEAST before getting them too.

After 3 tickets, yes, THREE tickets which all took at least a full day (24+ hours at least, have the emails to prove) they finally understood what i need (which was very well expressed in the very fist ticket anyway) so they proposed that instead of giving me access, they would cancel the account that was not paid for this month anyway and give me a backup to download.
Sounds good, right? Thats what i thought too! A full cpanel backup, what more would i need?

So, after 3 tickets, a 4th ticket is needed (as instructed by the staff) to actually cancel my account and ASK for a backup. Yes, a staff member TOLD ME to place a new ticket to ask for cancellation and request a backup download.. So, they ask me all the details they need like full name, address etc to cancel it. Which i provide.. only to be emailed a while back to find out that they cancelled and deleted the account and as the staff member exactly put it :

"Hello,

We are sorry to see you go, however your hosting account has now been canceled. No further billings will occur on this account.

The data stored within this account is no longer available either via the internet, our servers or backup systems. It has been deleted from all our systems."

Now tell me why should i EVER suggest their services to others?
Their tickets take too long for small things, where i had hosting plans on hosts that take less than half an hour to at least RESPOND. I know that some problems need their time but RESPONDING to an issue is another thing. In these 3 tickets, their first response HOURS AFTER, was "i am sending this issue to my superiors, please wait". This is not support, this is a joke.

Why would they DELETE all data when i ASKED for a backup?? This plan was not making ANY traffic (if it did it was really really tiny) at all for the last few months! Thats what i get for staying a customer for so many years..

nice one skynethosting! I ve never been more pissed off in my life from a host, this is literally the worst experience i ve ever had! WHAT HOST on earth would cancel your account WITHOUT providing a backup, especially when you REQUEST one? The correct answer wins a trial one month account at skynethosting.net...

stay AWAY!!!
that was a huge failure on their end, no matter the reason.. I would really like to know the reason they did it, but i am not so sure i want to wait so long for their tickets so i am putting it out here to make someone cautious.. And see if they respond and what they have to say..

I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep your own account backups, regardless of host/what they offer. I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way though.

Did you pay for a backup service or was there one included? (That you can access)

If not, I don't see how they did anything wrong.

No i didnt, because i live halfway around the world.. and calling to the USA would cost me more than the hosting plan for a month. This is why there are tickets. And when you boast that you have "Genuine 24x7x365 Customer Support with 1 Hour Support Response Time." i expect to get a return ticket at AT LEAST a couple of hours. Not after 3 or 4 or 5 hours. There is also the problem of speaking english. I can type and read english just fine, why should i have to call for something that should be provided and advertised?

of course i had my backup.. I wanted the newest possible to be able to get any files in between, just in case!

I assume if that is something what is really important for you - take care of all backups yourself and store them on your PC.

No didnt pay for any backup service.. my very first ticket was to ask about details on how to login to the server to get the files on my own!
The staff itself proposed that i cancel the account and ask for a backup.. so do you really still think they didnt anything wrong? It was them that told me to cancel and ask for a backup. It was them again that cancelled the account and didnt provide a backup. If they told me that there is no way to get a backup unless i pay a sum of money i would pay that sum of money!

Its that simple. I say something and i do as i say. Why would they say that they will provide a backup and then went on and delete it? It was most probably one of those tickets that was handled first by the first level support and then by the real staff. But still, not my problem.. If i wanted to solve support issues i would run my own company instead of being a web developer. I cannot think why someone thinks this was an ok thing to do. After all it was them that proposed that!

Of course its important and of course i do take backups and store them on my pc..

The problem is not that i do not have a backup of my own!
The problem is that they deleted data that they PROMISED to deliver! For a loyal customer of so much time..

Okay if you have all backups with you - take it easy and move to other host.

As long as my tickets were responded to as they should and they provided the backup they promised, i would not even think about complaining about the time taken to respond.. because my issue was not along the lines of "server is down" etc.

But waiting so long only to find out they do not care about you and your ticket's contents is a total turn off for any service they provide now or in the future.

I am really happy with my current host and would not change it for the life of me. I am just here stating the obvious, a problem that i happened upon.

I dont think forums only exist to praise but to also let others know of problems.. this is the only way for people to know if a host is actually good or not. Reading both pros and cons. Its not good only reading praise from the first or second month of hosting and then nothing when you look for hosting.

From what I see client DID NOT MAMKE ANY PAYMENTS to us starting from 2011-01-31. We have sent the client 3 reminders, however since there was no response from the client end we have temporarily suspended his account due to late payment.

Once the account was suspended client immediately contacted us and DEMANDED to enable his account while refusing to make the payment.

After 45 days from his last payment we have terminated his account due to non payment.
