If you are looking for something that powerful then why not go with a dedicated box?

I think MDDHosting has their servers at SL, im not sure though since they were recently doing some changes.

Take a look at their VPS plans.

They previously did. Now they own their hardware and they're colocated.

Ah sorry about that then. I can't think of any other providers that are on the Singlehop or SL network that offer a VPS that powerful.

Take a look at x10Hosting / x10 VPS - I believe they are hosted with Single Hop in Chicago. Nothing but 100% uptime !

Regarding the Softlayer vs. singlehop, we uses SingleHOP servers in our host so my vote goes with singlehop.

For softlayer network, you can try clubuptime. i'm on their 512mb openvz plan and my vps there is more responsive and fast than on a competitor 1024mb openvz plan.

I think the OP meant 12 GB as in the host node having 12 GB, not a 12 GB VPS. He states at the end he's looking for 1-2 GB. Not sure if that was what you were referring to by "powerful" but wanted to mention and clarify.

OP, I don't have experience with these providers, but ClubUptime and QuickWeb have servers in SoftLayer. Both seem to be well regarded and worth checking out.

Why don't buy direct from those providers. I recommend Softlayer due to their uptime/performance and bonus that comes with it.

Single Hop is quite good with Clouds Hosting And Dedicated Servers.

I'd like to know how much are you going to spend on a VPS?

If you mean why do company's set the Virtual Servers disk space limits to that? Well we have lower limits because it costs us resources, and clients are also able to upgrade via tickets, or during check out.

You can always upgrade your diskspace/bandwidth/memory whenever needed

SingleHop has a very good network and I highly recommend getting a VPS that is in the SingleHop DC. I couldn't find a host that is hosted in SingleHop except for SiteCloud and GreenGeeks. I would not recommend SiteCloud as they don't have their act together yet, but GreenGeeks might be a good option.

Regarding the SoftLayer vs Singlehop question, I'd recommend Softlayer. They have the biggest and stable network in the US with several traffic exchange points and 3 extremely good data-centers.

I do agree with this. Softlayer has been great to us, We haven't had any downtime or issues with them at any time. They have a solid network, bandwidth providers, great data center structures, security, and powerful servers.

I do recommend Softlayer data center over singlehop, Just with my experience with Softlayer I'm over-happy with the service I have.

You can check out clubuptime, I do believe they offer VPS services in the Softlayer locations.

We do have servers in Softlayer. However, at the moment, we have no IP Addresses and Softlayer won't allocate any more.

They've essentially told us that we need to go direct to ARIN as of yesterday due to the quantity of IP addresses that we go through, and that they currently have next to none left.

So, for the time being, we're not accepting many new orders. We can see what we have available, but until we hear back from ARIN, consider our availability to be nil.
