    managed Colocation LAX - Recommendations?

    Hey guys,
I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions as to managed colocation providers in LAX. We would be looking at 3-4 servers + 1 switch to begin with but would scale up to around 10 servers in a year. It would probably be prudent to get a 1/3rd cabinet to begin with in any case.

The services provided should be everything from unboxing, cabling, installing in the rack to replacing failed components and initial configuration of switches/servers. Ideally the provider should peer at Equinix LA but its not mandatory.

I have checked out Quadranet and have ordered a dedicated server just to see how the service is. Even though in my original email I said I was looking at a managed colocation service it has still taken them 4x as long to provision the server as originally requested and their support/provisoning department lack even basic knowledge about internet routing (I requested a /28 to be routable by us using our own router and as such requested a /29 linking range but this got them thoroughly confused). Alongaside the poor service they haven't followed up on the managed colo side of things so I guess they don't want my business.

So I'd be really interested to hear of any providers people can recommend or currently use and can provide feedback on.

    Thanks!

Are you looking to manage your own gear at all (eg. need facility access, dedicated cabinets, etc?)

We wouldn't really need facility access, there may be the odd time when we wish to come to the facility but being escorted is no problem. The main reason for the managed aspect of colocation is that we are a New Zealand company hence it is very difficult to do anything on site ourselves (minimum 13 hours fly time).

I strongly disagree with your statements of our provisioning. We FREQUENTLY provide IP blocks to clients who will be doing their own routing.
The wording must have been confusing, or you were expecting a provisioning technician to know what you meant, when they do not handle any of the network side at all as they are server provisioning engineers who deal with racking, hardware, O/S, and use an automated system to assign IP addresses. Your request would have needed to been (or needs to be) escalated to a network engineer to manually process.
We can easily get your network configured as you need it. Also, your sales engineer should have followed through with the provisioning flow and made sure everything was done as you requested in your initial sales request. I know that I was not involved with this account as I would know who you were, so I will also have a word with the person responsible for your pre-sales and post-sales experience.

If we dropped the ball, I will make sure to admit it and analyze what the cause was so we can work on resolutions so it does not occur in the future.

Please contact me with the ticket number or your account ID and I will look into your account immediately to get everything straightened out.
We are definitely capable of and currently are providing managed servers for both colo and dedicated servers to many, many clients.

    My email is [email protected]

    Thanks

I wouldn't look at webnx, I have been trying to get a quote out of them for months! and their sales dept when you call always goes straight to VM.

Your requests seem to be pretty ordinary colo setup requests, I wouldn't even classify that as managed colo. Most of those requests would be something that is easily coverable under most providers remote-hands services.

Check around the offers forums here on WHT there is a handfull of LA providers that would meet those needs.

I was told by dan to deal with dan, and I don't leave VM's. No, but i have emailed dan probably half a dozen times looking for quotes, and when I call asking for him they refuse to put me through, and sales never answers the phone.

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the information. I will take a further look into some of the providers in the offers forum.

Just as a note most things have now been setup with Quadranet although the IPv6 still hasn't been setup fully as requested yet (I think they may have forgotten about it).I'll talk to Chris (I appreciate him posting on here) but first impressions do mean a lot...

I know Hurricane Electric is in LAX... not sure if they just have transit there or if they have their own facilities.

I might be wrong, but I think webnx is inside Multacom?

Sorry, but I had the same experience, when I tried to get some hardware from them in the past. Then I did not ask webnx anymore.

We have nothing to do with Multicom. We have direct space with 530 W. 6th St., Coresite / One Wilshire, and 800 S. Hope St.

As far as hardware goes, we haven't sold server hardware in quite some time.

I've heard good things about WebNX. However, I've contacted them several times regarding colo (most recently last week) and they are out of space.
