Need advice on migration from GoDaddy, multiple sites/databases

Okay, GoDaddy pissed me off today and I've had enough. I'm looking to move four cheaply hosted sites on to one cloud or virtual dedicated server. I'm looking to spend somewhere around $50/month, which seems fair to me.

My sites, when combined, generate about 400,000 pageviews a month. That will hopefully spike to somewhere around 500,000 by the end of the year, given that I've just launched one site that will begin to grow.

Naturally, all of these sites are database-driven and GoDaddy wouldn't offer me any help in migrating these MySQL databases, telling me to use PHPMyAdmin. Ugh. One Db is 150MB while the other is 200MB. What a pain in the ass. Any host that would help me upload these databases would be my friend forever.

One of my GoDaddy sites is stupid-slow, which is spurring this migration. I'm willing to forfeit my current $20/month hosting fees and up it to $50/month but I need some assurance of an actual speed boost from the host.

Can anyone recommend a good cloud/virtual dedicated host that will come in at that price and work with me on the migration elements of moving four sites simultaneously?

All you do is export your databases via phpMyAdmin and you're done. Any provider will give you an increased boost. Check out WooServers. They have a great amount of resources for a good price. I'm a customer for my clients and I'm extremely thrilled with their service.

Getting the databases down isn't a problem at all, it's getting them back up to a new host that's the problem, given PHPMyAdmin's 2MB upload limit (that can be expanded to 10-20MB through the SQL command instead of using the importer).

If anyone knows a better way of doing it, I'm all ears.

I'll check out WooServer. Thanks.

Rocketpig,

Any good host will allow you to upload the dump files to your webspace and then they can manually restore these for you.

Rocketpig,

Welcome to WHT. You should have no problem with the restore whoever you choose, but it's a good idea to ask the host prior to choosing them just to be sure. As long as you have your database dumps you should be good to go.

Your budget should also be reasonable for a Cloud Server and should get you 768MB-1GB/RAM or so for that.

Migrating your sites from GoDaddy Should be no problem. I've moved sites and domains from Godaddy to our servers and have become pretty familiar with their control panel.

Getting data base help is often more difficult as I've found that most tech support staff have little or no knowledge in this area.

Hopefully as your sites are already up and running that should not be an issue considering all of the technical aspects are already in place. So downloading your files and uploading to the new server should not require a huge amount of modification.

Good luck
