webhosting without a domain
I currently have two small fansites hosted on subdomains on netfirms.com
Netfirms just emailed me yesterday that all free webhosting was being discontinued on Feb 28.
I don't want to purchase two domain names.
These websites are very small and don't get much traffic.
I am interested in finding a paid webhost where these two websites can be hosted as subdomains. Are there any hosts like this?

Hmmm... This isn't a paid web hosting company, but a Post2Host one.
Google "Crunch Host" and sign up for an account. Server speed is fast and there are various plans that you can choose from,

I can't imagine why Netfirms wouldn't host your subdomain for you, if you're paying for it.

You could find a web host that gives you a free domain name with hosting (usually you have to pay annually to get the free domain). Just make sure you can have subdomains with the account. Then you would use the free domain name and create your own subdomains to host them in.

There aren't a lot of providers that will give subdomains these days. Honestly you could just get a generic domain ($8/year or less than $1/month) and just use subdomains on that one domain for both sites and/or more sites if you wanted.
If you can't afford $8/year then you would definitely want to look at free hosting providers. I know x10hosting.com will give you a subdomain hosting account for free.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
These two small websites are hosted by Netfirms for free. Have been for the past 6+ years. They offered to upgrade them to $2.50/month each.
I think I'll just move them to one of my existing webhosting accounts. These two very small fansites don't get much traffic, and they're not high in Google ranking at all.

It appears Netfirms no longer will honor free hosting on their servers.

Almost every paid hosting plan offers the possibility of hosting subdomain. Netfirms also.
Pay hosting and host your web sites as a subdomain.

As I wrote above, I didn't really want to have to buy another domain name for these two small websites.
My original thought was to create two subdomains for them on one of my existing webhosting accounts.
Now, I am thinking I will bite the bullet and register another domain name and get another webhosting account.

Hello.
$2.50 per month per website is very steep! If they are as small as you state, I am sure you can get away with something much cheaper! Not all webhosting will advertise the fact that they offer subdomains rather than domain hosting. Surely it shouldnt be more than $10 - $15 per year for the hosting!! (for both)
If you are looking for cheap domains - a .info may be helpful? Some hosting providers may be able to offer them really cheaply! Maybe $4/5 per year? Plus the hosting $15-$20? (should the account be as small as you say it is!)
Anyway! Keep us updated as to what you found!
Best.
Alex
ps: have you looked at the offers section?

.tk domains can be had for free too (with some exception clauses). http://www.dot.tk/
What I would hate most about this sort of thing is that you'll be using any search engine rankings you had, however small the traffic that came that way was. The very short notice is also in poor taste for a host that has offered this service for so many years, though it probably helps them force a higher number of these free users to paid services.
Free hosting, in the classical version, seems to be fading away. Revenue is probably not enough now that advertisers have started to look more and more for ROI rather than brand awareness. But, perhaps interest from users has faded too now that you can have a blog for free or use Facebook.

Thanks for the heads up about the .tk domain.
Yes, Netfirms gave me 4 days notice. It was free, and it was good while it lasted.
I am the eternal pessimist. The "free" Facebook can't last forever. They've already taken up about 1/4 of the width for their ads that wasn't there before.
