Does it matter if the webhost I choose are not geography located close to me??!
Hi
I live in Sweden and the swedish webhosts aren't as experienced as for exampel InterNAP, Verisign, Hosteurs ...for a hosting small business websites.
My question is:
"Is it better to have the server (swedish) close to me and maybe be a bit expensive OR should I go for the International webhost, because the distance to USA doesn't matter anyway?"
And if you think the distance doesn't matters which webhost do you suggest....
Best Regards

Hello Jonas,
For hosting a normal website distance does not matter. Connections from Europe to the US are excellent anyway. Only if you plan on playing games over the internet will you start noticing that distance *does* matter.
Some good hosts: site5, dixiesys, affordablehost, myostrich.

It doesn't matter where the host is located, as long as the service is good. Many hosts also have their servers in different datacenters, that might not even be in the same country or state.
Write in the request forum, and tell people what you need, then wait for the replies. After that, check them out and ask questions here.
Hope it helps

Shop around.
I'm in the UK and the servers hosting my website are in Japan.
With all the really fast links linking most of the world together you don't really need to worry about chosing a host in your home country.

Hi Jonas-
Usually, it does not matter with regard to the location. I had not considered online gaming, as Pilgrim mentioned, but he has a point. Most people, though, will never be able to tell the difference.

One thing you may want to do before choosing a host if you are concerned about the time factor (and as everyone here pointed out, it is very minimal) is ping the host at a few random times (one of which should be a peak time) to see how long the round-trip takes.
Another good host (that pings well from Holland in Europe; I don't know about Sweden) is Sectorlink. I use these guys for myself and my clients and the service has always been above the standards I set (and I am a very picky person when it comes to stuff like this.)

Ping is not a major factor for hosting a webpage.
If you are UK and host in the UK, you should ping around 30ms.
If you are UK and host in the USA it will ping around 130ms.
If you load a page the difference between 30ms and 130ms is not at all noticable.

If you are going to choose a server located in the US. Try and choose one close to the East coast. Nac is a good choice. They have very good peering links to Europe.
Typical pings are about UK to US 80ms via NAC data center. ping nac.net
UK to UK is about 15ms ping redbus.co.uk [UK RedBus Data Center]
On a like for like basis price is more favourable in the US.
IMO if you have a busy forum you will notice the difference in speed though if choose a host in the US. Browse a few few US & UK hosts and see if you can notice the difference.
It all depends on your needs and budget and choose which one is best for you.
