Question ls colour command - centos

I am trying to change the default colors for the ls command.
The problem is that every time I log out as root and log back in, the colors are reset, and I have to keep typing the command:

    eval `dircolors -b /etc/DIR_COLORS`

Does anyone know the fix for this?

    add to ~/.bashrc:
    eval `dircolors -b /etc/DIR_COLORS`
