New to VPS and would like some info
Hi Guys,
First of all, hello to you all. I just signed up because I stumbled across this forum while researching about VPS.
I work as a Systems Administrator in a medium sized company. We have in-house web application built in .NET using MSSQL, which we are using as CRM system. Now we want to have a system for online ordering for our customers (not public).
Now it is my second day in my research and I cannot find which VPS and who to go for. It will obviously going to be a critical move as we dont want to move around. I will write down the requirements down so you guys can point me to the right direction.
Applications:
IIS
.NET
MSSQL
OS:
Windows 2003/2008 std
Access:
RDP (preferred)
Control panel (Not sure how much of a control I will have)
Unmanaged (managed is also good but I can configure)
RAM:
I would say minimum 2GB because of SQL
CPU:
Again at least high speed (dual - hyper v?)
Location:
we are in the UK so its preferred. Not sure how performance will be affected if its in US?
Budget:
Well who doesnt want everything for less? It should be a fair price. Not too expensive and not too cheap. Customer Services, reliability, stability, no downtime, performance is more important, but that said, not something silly price.
Hope you guys can help me out pointing me to some good providers that you have used/use

Hmm,, it's little hard finding UK/EU-base for Windows VPS. just take a look at VPS offer who offer KVM, HVM, vmware, or windows Hyper-V. for provider maybe just take a look at frantech.ca Mr. Francisco is a nice person.

Your requirements are quite doable and I'll recommend you to consider a virtualization technology that is least oversold (Hyper-V/Xen/VMWare). Are you looking for a managed VPS or a self managed VPS (most generally there is additional prices for management).

I think self managed would be fine as I do manage servers here in-house. But then depends if something goes wrong hardware wise, if they will charge to resolve those types of issues. I am open to both.
Any recommendation who offer virtualize technology?
oh wait lemme look at your company. didnt look at your sig
do you guys think it will make much difference if the server is here in the UK/EU or USA?

sorry,, ask him. maybe he can do a favor for you. if you are in UK/EU i think you must choose East Coast location. but, UK/EU base location is the best option for you.

I guess i'd just chime in here We colocate everything so build outs get quite costly. Our VMWARE nodes run nearly $4000 alone after RAID cards and the like come into play.
We do a very controlled growth with all of our brands to make sure we're not delivering a less-than-stellar service or getting too busy that our support staff gets bogged down.
If anything, us being honest and controlling our stock should look a little better that we're at least not constantly cramming more and more people in the same gear we got

Quite significant if you target visitors from UK.

Fair point. This is why I joined the forum so I can hear from actual service providers and customers.

Hi Guys,
I have come across TSOHost which will do dedicated server, and also IntraHost who can provide VPS.
My question is: have you guys have experienced with them? Which one would you recommend?
