Any plans to deploy a mobile app for your web hosting company?

I've seen some neat iPhone apps from web hosting companies lately, curious to know if others plan to release an iPhone or Android app to your hosting clients... ?

What would be the function of this? Billing and Support, or cPanel?

I know there are apps for WHMCS, but that is all on the administration side.

Only benefit I could see having an app for your clients is for support. But, if they are already on their phone, why not just call?

Not sure I would want to release a billing app. With so many insecure wifi spots, I would be afraid my client(s) would hit one of those when browsing through the app and give away valuable data. Although, I am not all that familiar with security on mobile apps, so that might not be a concern.

App for support are really interesting. For me to start a website with a compagny who have an app to reach them on the road will be definitely a plus.

I agree!.. would be a big plus if they allowed me to interface with my CPANEL as well ... and just simply follow them on twitter and get server / upgrade status, etc....

Web browsers on mobile devices are getting to the point where you wouldn't even need a customized app to utilize cPanel effectively. It's easy enough from an iPhone today.

Agreed, but there are still a lot of people out there that would rather have an app than use there browser.

We use the onapp one to allow our customers and partners manage their cloud machines - it's a huge draw and actually wins us business.

Can't agree with you more... not to mention the great brand advantage a hosting company would have with your logo/company app in the customers pockets and accessible anytime with one touch.

I've seen that app the other day... looks very useful and I'm sure it gives you the sales advantage over others. Good vision.

  15. I think that iPhone cPanel Management apps and Analytics apps are the way forward.

Customers like the ease of use and having more access to their website.
However, you could say that they are slight novelties, as it is usually just as if not more practical to log-on to a computer.

cPanel apps and analytics apps already exist on the AppStore, which means that company specific apps will only have the added advantage of support tickets and the viewing of invoices.

Therefore I think it is on the roadmap for the majority of hosting companies worth their salt.

    Best Regards,
    Rhys Dawes.

Based of the signatures we receive in tickets many of our clients are already using their blackberry, android or iphone to respond to tickets or billing. I think many hosting companies are looking at the investment vs. the reward which is minimal. If you have a tech savvy group of customers, they know how to use their phone and they are already making the current systems work for them. The application development can cost tens of thousands of dollars and years to get released and approved for the app stores. Everyone's business model is different; however, long run, I think you'll see most hosting related companies stay away from it.
