Depend how much your budget? how's quality of calls and how much concurrent calls at a time.

You have option using softswitch with asterisk server or radius base server with cisco/quintum gateway.

It's all depend on you and we can't make recommendation without what you want

I know that Pinellas Hosting offers a Asterisk / PBX Virtual Machine solution that can come either managed or unmanaged. Not of lot of hosts can offer both and know what they are doing, but they have done it for years. I have been hosting my sites with them since I can remember.

There are lots of many reseller solutions out there.

If you want to do everything your self. A2Billing is a free open source billing system that sits ontop of Asterisk. That can do calling cards and much more.

You can try using Enswitch or going with an Enswitch reseller. They have a pretty good platform. You can look at a demo at: http://enswitch.demo.integrics.com/?...password=guest

And no I do not work for them. Just a happy user.

Maybe I misunderstood the question. Elastix is a great VOIP Server/VOIP PBX. If you are looking for an actual service try les.net, teliax.net, and bandwidth.com.

We've had great success with Vitelity.net
They have servers for lease right within their facility too.

    Just my two cents

better is start with a complete package, give your projection either developing a voip application / servers, or do VoIP itself. You can choose softswitch voipswitch, mera ( MVTS), VoS3000 these are cheap. Also speedflow has class 4 & 5 softswitch on rent.

Hi kc_trades! I'd like to assist you with your interest. Can you tell us your requirements for setting-up this VOIP solution?

If your small/planning to stay small then by all means. Go softswitch. But remember you should bare this in mind when you run your own telco....

Know your network/system/infrastructure..... DO NOT... REPEAT.... DO NOT!!! go out renting a softswitch of a company. Esp if they host it... you do not know their network, their reliability, possibly latency and other factors.... Additionally do they run the network or just renting a DEDI somewhere and packing on it (via VPS) with other customers. We started out by building our own swtich/session boarder controllers... Took time/money but when we ever have issues, it makes it a breeze.

Also make sure you purchase appropriate firewalls. The amount of credit our customers have lost (£10's of thousands) as there softswitches got hacked is truly amazing. Mostly numbers to Premium rate numbers in Freetown, Serria Leone or Austria.

If your serious about it.... sooner or later you need hardware. Obviously you have the big players like Cisco and Semiens, but these come at a price.... as we have learnt since we have just installed several core switches at our POPs in Miami, Lima, Paris, London & Frankfurt.

This is the last i will be putting in on the matter as there are fare to many amateurs who are trying to enter the market thinking they can make a quick buck. Truth is thankfully comms are more regulated than things like webhosting and customers require serious results.

I would like to learn all about voip. How to set it up what to do with it how it works etc. What are some good books or websites to read about it? I am very knowledgable when it comes to configuring things. I have run a web hosting business for over 10 years. I am just now getting interested in voip. Please and thanks for your recommendations.

Depends what you're interested in, which can range from Skype to setting up your own VOIP network.

    Here's a few interesting links -

O'Reilly have a free book in PDF format for Asterisk - http://www.asteriskdocs.org/
The PBX in a Flash forum is pretty good - http://pbxinaflash.com/forum/
voip-info.org has lots of useful info - http://www.voip-info.org/
The digium forums has lots of (pretty specific) info - http://forums.digium.com/
SysAdminMan - Asterisk PBX hosting - FreePBX, A2Billing and Elastix
