In a tight situation with Ubiquityservers

Hi,

I currently have a server with Ubiquityservers.com Its a great server and I actually love it. I even made 2 good reviews in the past.. But, here's the thing now.

I'm having issues with bandwidth overages.

I know. overages costs a lot. they are asking $1 per GB actually. So what I did was, I asked them If I can just get an additional bandwidth for a block of 1TB. since my server is renewing in less than 4 days.

So, they said they only allow upgrades of 12TB for $70. I asked them if there are other options available (like if I'll just get even an additional 500gb to somehow make it cheaper since I'm renewing in 4 days.) but based on the response I got, I guess there's none.

Alright. I'm willing to pay for the $70 upgrade if that's the case but what surprised me is this:

Once I purchase the upgrade, The additional $70 a month on my server can no longer be removed. It means, the upgrade is already fixed for the rest of the life of my account.

**
Well Actually, my radio got quite attention so I was planning, after this month, is to get a 2nd server from them to manage the load between the 2, so I wont have overages, and I'll have 2 servers for my site.
**

But, I guess that wont happen no more since they'll charging me a $70 upgrade for an additional 6TB. whereas if you'll buy an atom server from them, it will almost cost the same plus you'll 'get the same bandwidth with a server'.

So, I being a bit disappointed, I submitted a cancellation request. But according to them, they advised me to just upgrade and $70 or I'll face a $1000 bill on overages.

OK, so I'll be making a payment of $70 rather than pay for $1000 for 900GB of bandwidth overage but still I'll be moving away.

I'm planning of transferring back to 100tb.com, since my current plan, if added with the upgrade would cost around $190 while the same plan would just cost $228 on 100tb plus of course the 100tb of bandwidth I'll be getting.

I actually like my server. the network is good, the server is fast, the support is fast but I think, If I purchase the upgrade it wont be economical for me anymore based on the price comparison I did. with the features 100tb has, I guess the $37 additional would be alright and worth it rather than having my current server.

Again, I'm telling this, I don't have a problem paying an additional $70 for this month only. to settle the overages. But I won't be happy to pay-up for the coming months.

It seems like a good deal considering they are drastically lowering the overages you owe on the account. If you kept the server for 1 year, you would still be better off then paying for the bandwidth.

I think its a standard upgrade on the bandwidth part. Yes, its a good deal rather than paying a thousand bucks for the almost 1TB overage.

If you don't use all 100TB, I don't know why you would move to 100TB and pay $37/mo more.
Did you try to ask them if you can downgrade the bandwidth back to its original amount when you buy another new server?

Hi,

If you like the network then stay with them.

If 70$ is too much then just switch over to 100tb.com. Every company has a price strategy and noone has to offer 100tb @ 200USD.

Else just buy the additional server with them and talk to them - surely you will come to an understanding.

So If my site gets a spike, I wouldn't worry about bandwidth overcharges.

About the 2nd server, I'm not planning to get it anymore once I move out from ubiquity. since the 100tb bandwidth from 100tb is more than enough for my needs.

Did you read this ticket response before you created this thread?

We only remove bandwidth overages if the server is upgraded for it's duration of service. If you're going to order a second server before the 25th, we can consider that instead of a permanent bandwidth upgrade, but we'll need to know what you're ordering first.
I think we offered that, or perhaps I just worded it poorly?

Sorry that you have this problem with Ubiquity. I had a server with them for a few months now, and so far 0 issues, except some fees that I had problems with that are in somewhat a way related to yours.

$70 upgrade to remove $1000 is a no brainer. Even if you keep that server for a year at the new price you are still better off than paying the overage charge.

That overage rate is really excessive, wow! You can buy a full 100-1000Mbps of bandwidth for $1000.

Hello,

Well you have to be aware what you are buying. ZIndeed 1 $ oer GB is gigh but you need to be aware of that when ordering.

An overage rate significantly higher than a regular rate is common practice. We'd rather clients select an accurate billing plan at the beginning of the month, allowing us to accurately plan bandwidth capacity needs. In doing so, we can make sure our network will meet the needs of the oncoming month. Overages are high to encourage selecting the right bandwidth plan and to discourage widespread overages.

Unlike a lot of providers, we'll remove an overage bill if the new hosting package that you sign up for would have met your needs that month. This was offered to the OP before this thread even started, both by adding a bandwidth package and by adding a server (which is what he suggested would help him better than a bandwidth package.)

My dear sir, isn't your listed overage rate $.50 per gb on colo? Would his $500 overage with you not have been excessive? Are you here to signature spam or did you just want to call the kettle black?

On second thought, that appears to be your list prices?

I'm siding with Ubiquity on this one. The client has already incurred quite a bit of overage. Ubiquity is allowing him to do a retroactive bandwidth upgrade, but they're requiring that he keep the upgrade on the account for a length of time. It's a reasonable requirement.
