per-server/U colo in/near Ashburn?

Hello WHT - been a long time since I've posted here,

I am looking to move my current colo servers from where they have been for the past 3-4 years to new colocation in the Ashburn, VA area (they're currently in Chicago) with the following requirements:

- native IPv6, if I could get a /56 routed to me that'd be badass
- physical access at least during business/daytime hours, if not overnight as well (for an escort fee is fine, I understand that for per-server colo that's usually required)
- 3x2U servers (6U total, maybe with a switch or firewall depending on what the cost would be)
- I'm not sure exactly how much bandwidth I'll require. at least 10mbit/s (maybe 20mbit/s depending on price) 95th %ile. As long as it's on 100mbit burstable I'm sure I can make 10mbit/s work

I've got service like this in Chicago for $300/mo right now (except for the native v6) and would love to stay under or around that price point.

Maybe this is impossible, we'll see. If Ashburn isn't doable, anywhere within an hour drive of Ashburn would also be ok. I've tried to find per-server colo in Ashburn but either my googlefoo is failing me or they don't exist (I suspect the former...)

You might need to sacrifice yourself and go to Reston

All the better, I really don't care if it's Ashburn or Reston (I could throw a rock and it'd land in Reston, it's closer than Ashburn). I'm just used to some of the Ashburn facilities from my employer's presence there.

I'm *pretty* sure YellowFiber does per-server in Reston.

Thanks, I've requested a quote from them. I'm still open to any/all other suggestions as the more places I can feel out the better it is.

FastServ is in Ashburn, but I believe they're out of budget for you.

FastServ is indeed in Ashburn Equinix campus. They may cut you a deal, if Ashburn is specific for you.

I'd suggest checking out CoreSite Reston Exchange though -- particularly, Yellow Fiber (http://www.yellowfiber.net/). I have been with them awhile now as a per U colo client and their network has been great. Greg and Zak at YF (there are others) are also very nice, even though Zak comes off a little intimidating on wht.

You're asking for $50/u base price, though -- which I doubt anybody would advertise on their site. You will most likely not find a site list price in North VA for that amount of money.

InfoRelay, FastServ and Carpathia all have space in Ashburn (Equinix campus) for colocation. However I'd really give Yellow Fiber a shout...but thats just me

(p.s. CoreSite's game room has 2 PS3s and 2 big ol' TVs last time I was there...along with a full kitchen and other stuff.)

I have space with YellowFiber (CoreSite) and Reliable Hosting Services (Switch and Data, now Equinix) both in Reston. CoreSite's facility is a little nicer than Switch and Data, but at RHS they give you free kvm over ip and bandwidth is slightly cheaper. Both give you remote reboot and have a good bandwidth blend.

As far as access, none will give you 24/7 access anytime you want it.
YellowFiber has someone there every day during business hours as far as I know. RHS doesn't always have someone on site, but for night time access they are much more flexible, so it's a trade off.

Clarification - we're just down the street from Equinix in the 120k+ sq ft Latisys campus. Most of the connectivity (Comcast, Savvis, Level3, Telia, HE and GLBX) terminates via DWDM to the Equinix campus except for abovenet and XO who is currently on-site. Full disclosure: XO is the only carrier NOT in the BGP mix

Actually, 24/7 escorted access is no problem here regardless of the size of your account.

That's interesting to hear about escorted access. We have a cabinet in Equinix DC3 in Ashburn and no escort is needed. Is it usually the standard that if you colo only 1U then you can only have escorted access? I suppose that would ensure that the person doesn't disturb other customers' hardware in the same cabinet.

Usually anything less then a fully separated locking half cabinet, yes. Escorted and supervised access.
