    Google’s Criteria for Page Rank

Can you tell me on which basis Google provides Page Rank? And, how can I increase page rank for the web site?

  2. #2
There is no hard and fast rule for Page Rank but most of the webmasters consider that backlinks play great role in Page Rank. So, you should increase backlinks of your websites to increase Page Rank.

Google page rank criteria depend on lot of things:-

    (1) How frequently website content is updating?
    (2) How relevant the website content is?
    (3) How frequently visitors are visiting your website?
    (4) And where your website have back links?

Google wouldn't disclose the algorithm by which they calculate any website's PR. However the general assumption based on experiences is all about backlinks. The more (quality) backlinks you have, the higher your pagerank will be.

I wish these 3 to be true. ll of them are important for a web page rank, but you can see a lot of websites with very poor content, which have not been updated for ages and still have PR 3,4 or 5.

Google gives Page Rank by analyzing Inbound Links of your website.
The more quality backlinks your website have then the more Page Rank you will get.

What a well of misinformation! (with a few exceptions)

PageRank is a simple concept, the genesis of which is clearly laid out in the Stanford paper at http://ilpubs.stanford.edu:8090/361/1/1998-8.pdf . It is not a very important part of the Google ranking algo, and it doubtless has been modified over the years, but the recent PR update shows that it is still something that Google is using to some degree.

While no one outside Google knows the exact details of PR, IMO it does NOT involve how often your pages are updated, the quality of the content or how many people visit your website.

I've seen a lots of websites which has very few backlinks as well as pretty old content.
And wondering how they got PR 3 or 5 with them!!

I am pretty sure that PR is not completely based on backlinks.

Well eSupun, if you actually understood PageRank you would not be so confused>

BTW old content and PR have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

    (I don't think you do.)

google has thousand of basis to give pr And the best one is unique content

Any idea on average how many backlinks are needed for a google PR of 3?
    Thanks

Yes backlinks, but also age of the website also plays a role. If you for example are selling womens shoes and you have a brand new, sparkling website, a more established one, even if not much used, will get a higher page ranking due to its age. Although from what I have heard, when you set up a new website, you will go up higher in the page rank initially, to give you a leg up - after that it is up to you to build up your customers, content etc. in order to earn that place.

Yes that's an algorithm called Sandbox which basically looks at how old your page is and when was last updated. New pages just crawled are said to have higher ranking positions which are gradually restores based on the Page Rank.

Can traffic really influence the Google PageRank? I don't think so. It's all about the quality of backlinks, less the quantity. The quality of backlinks from a site with many outgoing links is rather low.

correct, as one of my client have over 1000 backlinks and still the Google PR is the same as it was with 50 backlinks, even the website is updating on weekly basis.

The thing with Pr is that it is sort of transfered from one page to the other. So a page which has very few backlinks, but all from very high Pr pages, will have a much higher Pr than another page with hundreds of links that all come from unranked pages.
