Why Do Hosts Have Multiple IPs (nameservers)

I have a VPS with 2 IPs. I noticed that when I setup hosts (e.g. on Godaddy), I can add NS1 as a host, but I have the option of adding up to 13 "Host IPs".

I currently have ns1 with the first IP of my VPS and ns2 with the second, but what does one do with all of the other IPs? Is it for replicated NS1s and NS2s?

    Thanks

They're meant for redundancy/geographically dispersed nameservers, not for wasting every single IP on a server

so you mean multiple "copies" of ns1, at dispersed locations?

It can be for an alot of reasons, for security, reliable, stable issues and other things.

It simply allows them to connect in different parts of the world, so by you hosting it on one IP, if that IP is attacked or offline, your DNS is offline, but if you have it spread out, it will not be offline and still pick up.

I can go into more detail if needed, with explaining advantages of it also.
