Arrow How do i set static IP in Tiny Core Linux

Calling all penguins. I need your help!

I'm trying to get my TinyCore linux server to use a static IP address.

I tried the following steps and they dont work:

    1) Create a new file /opt/ to configure the interface.

    ifconfig eth0 netmask broadcast up
    route add default gw
    echo nameserver > /etc/resolv.conf
    echo nameserver >> /etc/resolv.conf

(be sure to change the IP and other information to fit your network config)

    2) Add to the end of /opt/ to start

    /opt/ &

    3) Add to the end of /opt/.filetool.lst so OS knows to keep the changes to

    4) Save changes to disk:

    sudo -b

    5) Reboot
Does anyone have any other solutions i can try. My datacenter cannot configure their DHCP server to assign my server mac the static ip so that method is out of the question.

Also whenever the following is typed, an error appears:

[email protected]:~$ sudo route add default gw
    route: SIOCADDRT: No such process

Your datacenter should be able to console the server and change your IP. If not you may want to find a better place to keep your server.

They dont know how to use that OS. I watched the tech support guy try typical linux commands (via KVM) and the process i mentioned in the first post and he wasnt able to get the IP to change.

Does anyone have any constructive answers aside from changing datacenters? Because im not doing that because im getting a special deal on this server and i will not get this anywhere else; believe me i looked.
