Yes same here. Down for me too. Did they inform about this outage before or is it unscheduled?

Nope, it's Enom... There likely isn't a public ETA and chances are you won't even know why it was down once it comes back up.

Yes I am seeing that as well, seems like maybe an httpd outage as the dns is resolving and the ip is live.

You know, I really like enom but they sure do have a way of making you feel like a red-headed step child unless you are servicing more than 100k domain names.

I agree that we will likely not get an explanation.

    And Kevin beat me.

Well since Namecheap is using Enom still for registration they are effected by it too, and they haven't even been told about it or an ETA. (Started at 2:40 am UTC)

    "Update @ 4:10 am UTC
Unfortunately there are not updates from the upstream provider so far. Their maintenance is still in progress. We will keep you updated on the progress. Thank you for your patience."

Apparently it's to upgrade their systems (enom)

Feels weird - no scheduled outage, no redundancy, not even their outage page is working.

I don't see how it's network related when everything is perfectly pingable with no packet loss.

So what do we do if?

Hi all, I'm new here :-). I've been hosting a small list of my own clients for about 7 years. I've been using Enom via a reseller for about 4 years. This is the first time I've "noticed" an outage but it brings to light something I've never really thought about - what do we do if our registrar disappears? I have almost 300 domains registered via Enom - could be a serious issue no? Thanks for any input.

I don't think they would 'disappear'. but in case this thing happens, you need to worry. :|

Haha - thanks for the reassurance LOL. Makin' fun of the new girl. I know - but seriously - does anyone have a plan B for this kind of thing?

I would guess ICANN would step in and do something. Having thousands of domains lingering without any way to change DNS (From what I read, domains would still work but you just can't change anything). Or they would sell everything to another company.

This has happened before with registerfly. ICANN stepped in and transferred everything to another registrar. (which was actually enom iirc)

  29. #29
You will find that ICANN would step in, using the escrowed information stored with Iron Mountain, would then transfer the domains to the new registrar. However, I would not worry about this just yet.

Enom's site is pulling up for me just fine now. Whatever problems they've had, looks like they've resolved them.

Just a matter of how soon their site will be visible everywhere else now. It'll be nice if they give a straightforward explanation what happened, though I'm not necessarily expecting it.

its good to know that a policy is in place to deal with such an event as to keep everything flowing correctly
