    Auto-reply to a FormMail submission

Hi everyone, I'm looking for help with an issue that I am having with FormMail. My knowledge regarding web design, programming, etc is extremely limited...

I just opened up a new account at MediaTemple (gs) for my website: www.IfItWasntForRap.com (still a work in progress!) What I'm trying to do is have an automatic reply saying something along the lines of "thanks for subscribing... blah blah blah" after someone submits his or her email through FormMail.

MediaTemple already had Matt Wright's FormMail version 1.92 installed in the cgi-bin so I figured I would just use that. I put the form on this page: www.ifitwasntforrap.com/contact.html. I have no problems receiving the form submissions. The email I used to send the info to is newsletter@ifitwasntforrap.com. I set the email account up in MediaTemple's control panel so that it would auto-reply with the message I wanted.

After testing the form with my personal email account, I did not receive the auto-reply but the form submission was received in the other email account. I then tried emailing the newsletter@ifitwasntforrap.com directly and did get the auto-response.

Can anyone please help me out with getting this issue resolved? Again, I know very little in this area so hopefully there is a simple solution that does not require a lot of skill.

    Thanks!

I recall that the particular script you are using is a well known insecure script (can be used to send spam) so unless you are certain MediaTemple have customised it to be secure I'd avoid it's use altogether.

Matt' Formmail script won't let you send an auto-reply unless you customize it. Mike's right it's kind of got some security issues too.

I use this service: formmailhosting.com - For the Autoreply part have the form submissions go to an autoresponder. Have the Autoreponder send the thank you email (it should also be able to forward you a copy of the email). Then I think you're good.

Would the easiest way of going about this not simply be:
    A) Setup a different email address to send the mail to
    B) Put a auto-response onto the email address.

Job done - and it took you the matter of 2 minutes.
