    gotta love cogent

I love how these guys try to poach clients from hosting companies 1 week, then the next they try to sell you bandwdith,

This is an email forwarded from one of our loyal customers:

    #######################################################
    Hello,

I'd like to speak with you about the server environment for
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and the connection with (our company). I work with Cogent
and consult with many adult sites and Tube clients such as yours. I was
following your website stats on Alexa.com and although ranked high #20,149,
your upload speed is slow 2.564, with 78% of sites being faster. I'd like
to speak about possible synergies between our groups and have the ability to
assess your bandwidth requirements to see if we are a good fit for your IP
    Transit/ Hosting requirements.

Are you available for a brief call this week?

    Best Regards,

    Chris Waters

It's the part of the world of sales. They're just doing their job.

Oh don't get me wrong, I get that, I just think they should choose between stealing your clients and selling you BW.

It would be like me supplying your convenience store with food then opening a grocery store right next door, unethical.

Doesn't their sales staff have such insane turnover that there's no point replying with "never talk to me again"?

Just to play devil's advocate here, maybe they actually researched your client's website and came to know who they're hosted with and other details. This is pretty much Outbound and/or Acquisition Sales, how else would they contact customers? Pretty much everyone is a client of some Company or the other.

Unless, they contacted all your clients somehow, then that would be stealing clients. Or if the employee worked with you, now jumped to a different Company and that Company were contacting your clients to get them to switch over.
